![]() ![]() In a world where access to RPGs is easy, this can be used as a great tool. This notion is supported by a paper published in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, which stated in its abstract that “role-players report experiencing higher levels of emphatic involvement with others”. It showed that players tend to live up to the role than play their own way “The results strongly support the idea that players make choices based on their character’s role, even if they didn’t pick the role,” says David Roberts, lead researcher on the study.Įxperts believe these kinds of studies can be helpful in determining whether such games can be used in grooming children in a fun and creative way. Another study, conducted at the North Carolina State University, tried to see if there is a correlation between player choices and their assigned roles in a video game created for the study. ![]() “Our results indicate that just five minutes of role-playing in virtual environments as either a hero or villain can easily cause people to reward or punish anonymous strangers,” said lead researcher Gunwoo Yoon. It was a study where the behavior of the participants towards others were observed after having them play either a villain or a hero character in a game. According to a study by researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the roles players take in RPGs can somehow affect how they interact with people in real life. Did you know that role-playing games can influence behavior? And not in a bad way too! Most of the time, at least.
